Neighborhood in York, PA

Olde Towne East

Olde Towne East is a tiny area located just east of downtown York that provides inhabitants with cheap urban living. This residential area is bounded by Market, Queen, Prospect, and Broad streets.  In 2001, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania recognized Olde Towne East as an “Elm Street neighborhood” as part of an ongoing restoration initiative. This signifies that the state has committed to assisting in the revitalization of this neighborhood. New sidewalks, street lights, and park renovations have all been completed. With grant assistance, the York Housing Authority and Habitat for Humanity continue to renovate homes and communities to offer affordable housing.

The Olde Towne East Neighborhood Association, an expression of the neighborhood’s strong sense of community, collaborates with other local public and private organizations, such as the YWCA and York City Police, to support and/or provide services and organize events that improve the quality of life in the Olde Towne East neighborhood. Martin Library is a short walk away. York County’s largest book collection, research expertise, over 70 computers, and learning opportunities for individuals of all ages may all be found here. Children’s Library programs meet all of the state’s early childhood education standards while also promoting children’s individual development. The Teen Forum is a place for teens to have fun, learn new things, discuss important issues, and make plans for their futures. Take a look around Martin Library, soak up the ambiance, and dream up new ideas!  The baseball stadium, Memorial Park’s ice skating rink, Central Market, and downtown theaters and restaurants are all within walking distance for residents. Olde Towne East is mostly a residential area with a tiny population that is located close to the city center. The Asbury United Methodist Church has been worshiping God and therefore forming devoted disciples of Christ since the year 1986, is one of the organizations that can be found on these streets. One of the most well-known organizations is the WCYA, which fights inequality and works to empower women. The Central Hispano of Reading and Berks County is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting the Latino community in the United States in improving their overall quality of life. Also nearby is the Tidings of Peace Christian School, which is… a conventional Christian school which everyone appears to enjoy being a part of! Just discovered a few years ago that this is one of the reasons why there are so many organizations and wonderful individuals living here.
