William H. Kain County Park
William H. Kain County Park was established in 1977 and consists of 1,637 acres with two lakes, Lake Williams and Lake Redman. A 50-year leasing deal between the County of York and The York Water Company made the park feasible. Residents of York, Pennsylvania may enjoy hours of fun and outdoor enjoyment at Lake Redman and Lake Williams. The two reservoirs supply water to York City and are surrounded by parks with hiking paths, boat launches, and picnic spaces. When a dam was built over the East Branch of Codorus Creek in 1913, it created Lake Williams, which has a surface area of 220 acres. In 1954, the dam was repaired and expanded to provide extra water. That wasn’t enough for the expanding region, so in 1967, a second dam was erected above the first to form 290-acre Lake Redman. Over 2.3 billion gallons of water are stored in the two reservoirs. Crappy, Sunfish, Catfish, Large Mouth Bass, Pike, Muskie, and Stripers are some of the fish species that are available for fishing. Pa has recognized both lakes as Big Bass Lakes. On Lake Redman, you may rent a boat (rowboats, paddle boats, canoes, standup paddleboards, aquabikes, and kayaks). There is just one boat launch on Lake Williams. There isn’t a lot of room for trailers. Gas engines are not permitted. There are two boat launches on Lake Redman. Gas engines are not permitted. Night boating is available all year.
